A Golf rule reference clubs via Fred January 25th 2017
January
25th 2017 A question raised
yesterday originates from a discussion over a members use of a two faced
chipper, which earns a disqualification for the offending
player.
The question was
“can a player repair a damaged club
during a round of golf”.
First and foremost with the exception of a putter golf
clubs shall have one face only.
The playing characteristics of a club must not be changed
purposely by adjustment or other means during a stipulated
round.
A club damaged in the normal course of play, the player
may without due delay [see rule
6.7], continue to play, repair or have it repaired, or if the club is unfit
for play, replace the damaged club with any club. Sheriff

Seniors Golf on Friday 20th report and photos from Tom McGrady....also Don Wraights birthday
There
were 6 of us today playing at Clays and we completed the full course (apart from
the 2nd) even though it was very misty for most of the
morning.
The 6
players were Andrew Mitchell, Graham Stokes, Tony Owens, Don Wraight, Nigel
Harris and Tom McGrady. They were split into 2 groups of 3. It was quite amusing for
the front nine because the 2nd group had to shout to the
1st group to ask if they had cleared the greens because they could not
see them!!!
The photos give you a feel for the conditions. The 1st picture
shows Andrew putting on the first green at about 8.45am. The 2nd
picture shows all 3 of our balls on the 3rd green and the last
picture shows the view from about 100 yards from the green on the 7th
fairway you will see that we could not see the green from so relatively
close.
Believe
it or not Don completed the round with a Stableford score of 39 points from 17
holes!!! Thankfully the sun came out and made it a whole lot easier to see where
we were going, and an enjoyable time was had by all.

Rules from Fred January 5th 2017
Hi
Derek will you publish this on the Blog and as there was some discussion on this
issue today January 5th 2017. I will also email the text to members many of whom may not look at
the Blog. Fred
Sheriff
on Rules: January 5th. 2017
Abnormal
Ground Conditions,
interference by an abnormal ground condition occurs if the Ball lies in or
touches the condition, or if the condition prevents you from taking your stance
or area of intended swing.
Question is
the footprint of a burrowing animal a hole, cast or runway within the meaning of
the term Abnormal Ground Conditions? Believe it or not the Answer is “No”, a footprint is an
irregularity of surface from which there is no relief, as with a few rabbit
droppings not constituting a scrape.
Getting
to the point of this blog. Mr Mole, the unwelcome
visitor to our golf course which often causes much discussion and misleading
advice given on the course with the question, “may I take relief”.
My
response is:- a cast made by a burrowing animal falls within the GUR definition
for a relief situation and therefore
includes a Molehill and/or the remains of a Molehill. If
the Molehill (or remains of a Molehill) interferes with your stance or intended
swing path or is in contact with the ball, relief under 25.1b is available.
Note,
if
you can take your normal stance over an adjacent Molehill and address your ball
laying clear, without interference to your swing-path, this situation does not
fall within the definition nor does “Line
of sight with a Molehill” relief for these situations is not available.

MULTIPLIER competition January 3rd 2017
Some 30 seniors played today over 17 holes. Temperature round about 6-7C
Irrespective of numbers in a team, the top 2 stableford scores at each hole are multiplied together to produce the team score for the hole.
Results:
- Ralph Hardy (18), Phil Hughes (23) and Frank Rodenhurst (10) 84 points
- Bob Brown (25), Ian Ketland (22) and Dave Palferman (11) 74 points
- Maelor Davies (20), Nigel Harris (20) and Mike Drake (27) 72 points
In Cliff Evans 2's competition there was only one player namely Don Wraight on the 5th hole. Don told Derek he holed a 20 foot putt but others said it was far less....talk about fisherman's tales!
