More Golf rules from Fred May 26th 2016

As we are entering the Match-play season and I received a query today, I thought it expedient to mention that Rules of Golf are not always the same for both Stroke-play and Match-play.

 

If your opponent plays from outside the tee Box there is no penalty in match-play, but you have the right to require your opponent to disregard the stroke and play from within the correct Tee area.

Now the tee area is not the raised ground upon which the tee markers are placed, it is the area rectangle consisting of a line between the two markers (either white yellow or red) and behind these markers, forming a box, a distance of two club lengths deep. 

 

Another misconception is in regard to the two shot penalty when both balls are on the green and a player’s putt strikes an opponents ball, In match-play there is no penalty.

Seniors Stableford qualifier May 24th 2016

What a glorious day we had today. Continuous sunshine all morning.

Results as follows:-

 39 players participated in an Individual Stableford kitty competition (also a Qualifier), with at least 12 others competing in Honours Board knockout competitions.

In the kitty competition:
1st - Don Wraight, 40 points.

2nd - David Jones, 38 points.

3rd - Bill Kelleher, 35 points.

4th - Maelor Davies, 34 points.

5th - Peter Fraser, 33 points (on countback).

6th - Tony Harcombe, 33 points (on countback).

7th - Barry Dare, 33 points (on countback).

Reg Taylor carded the only 2 of the day with a 2 on the 17th. His tee shot using his driver finished only about 1 metre from the pin. Reg made sure he made his putt as the following video shows. In fact started his round from the 16th with some great shots only later to falter!

Various Seniors events May 19th 2016

Several members played their various knockout competitions today whilst others played a match vs Old Padeswood and others played in a kitty competition. Nigel Davies the Seniors Captain led his team to a win - Clays 7 Old Padeswood 2. Well done to all whom played.

Derek is indebted to Steve Monk for providing the kitty competition results and to Cliff Evans for providing some photographs in the kitty competition.

In addition to those playing in the match against Old Padeswood and people playing in club 'Honours Board' competitions, a further 15 players competed in a singles stableford kitty competition.
Winners were:
1st - Fred Court, 35 points.
2nd - Cliff Evans, 34 points.
3rd - Tony Owens, 33 points.

4th - Ron Roberts, 32 points (on countback)

The weather today was glorious and Derek is indebted to Andrew Mitchell for sending him the results. Derek was elsewhere having acupuncture for his painful back which is preventing him playing at the moment. Guys might say he could not play anyway!!!
