St Davids Day February 28th 2017


A large field of 52 players competed today with 48 entering the 2's competition organised by Cliff Evans. Thanks must go to Don Wraight for organising the competition and to the catering staff for  a splendid meal after the competition. Of course sincere thanks to Roy Jones for sponsoring the event yet again.

All 18 holes were open today and results were as follows

1. Frank Rodenhurst with a super 39 points

2. Ernie Williams 37 points

3. Don Wraight  36 points

4. Gary Campbell  36 points

5. Malcolm Williams 36 points

6. Bob Jarvis  36 points

There were 2 winners in the 2's competition namely Alwyn Williams on the 2nd and Barry Dare on the 17th

Rule via Fred February 23rd 2017 and Storm Doris


This blog is to advise the introduction  a local rules which shall amend wording for Rule 18 as recommended  by the R&A. The Local Rule once introduced shall eliminate the penalty for any accidental movement of a ball or ball-marker on the putting green.If the ball was accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment, there is no penalty and the ball is to be replaced and played from its original location. Sheriff



Today Storm Doris came and I wonder if any Seniors went out to play? If they did more news will be posted!
Well 9 Seniors turned up and only Tom McGrady put his tally up. They all sat around drinking coffee and left at 9.45am...wise. From the photos below you can see which Seniors turned up. Thanks to Tom McGrady for supplying the photos and the information.

Winter league round 4 February 21st 2017

Today's results in the Winter League, Round 4.
47 players competed over 17 holes, the 2nd hole still being closed. A par score was therefore 34 stableford points.
1st - earning 10 league points - Frank Rodenhurst with a score of 42.

2nd - 9 points - Dave Palferman with 41.

3rd - 8 points - Don Wraight with 37 (on countback).

4th - 7 points - Gary Campbell also with 37.

5th - 6 points - Nigel Harris with 36 (on countback).

6th - 5 points - Dilly Jones also with 36.

7th - 4 points - Peter Fraser with 35 (on countback).

8th - 3 points - Reg Peacock also with 35.

9th - 2 points - Nick Lee also on 35.


10th - 1 point - Ralph Hardy with 34 (on countback).





42 members played in the two's with five achieving a Two, Tom McGrady, Barry Evans on the 5th Hole, Chris Jacques on the12th Hole,  Alan Roberts and Ron Roberts  on the 17th Hole.

Pairs betterball February 16th 2017


44 Seniors competed today. The competition was played over 16 holes with both the 2nd and 14th out of action. The 15th was played from a very forward tee and became a par 4.

Results

1. Steve Monk and Tony Owens 42 points on countback

2. Mike Hollings and Cliff Davies  42 points on countback

3. Andrew Mitchell and Dave Palferman 42 points

4. Diane Dare and Malcolm Williams  39 points on countback

5. Fred Court and "just back from holiday" Tom McGrady 39 points

In the 2's competition there were 5 winners....Mike Kalka on the 17th, Roy Jordan on the 5th, Steve Monk on the 17th, Mike Holllings on the 12th and Tom McGrady on the 5th

An interesting fact was that Colin Evans had 5 consecutive 3 pointers...well done

Seniors Waltz Competition February 14th 2017


Today is was very cold and the competition was played over 17 holes with the 2nd hole closed.

Rules of the competition as follows:-The waltz dance goes 1, 2 3 and then repeats the steps. Hence in this game format the highest team score on first hole is carded, followed by best 2 scores on second hole and then finally best 3 scores on next hole. This pattern in then repeated till the end of the game...easy and very enjoyable.


There were 2 separate competitions ....one for 3 balls and one for 4 balls

3 BALL RESULTS

1. Reg Taylor. Nigel Harris and Bill Kelleher  60 points

2. Steve Beech, Alan Roberts and Chris Jacques  59 points


4 BALL RESULTS

1. Fred Court, Bob Brown, John Davis and Peter Fey  75 points

2. Roy Jordan, Peter Lynch, Barry Evans and Stewart Poole  74 points

In the winning group Roy Jordan playing off 21 had a 2 on the par 4 10th hole. He did this with a rescue club off the tee followed by an 11 wood which went straight into the hole for 5 points.

Seniors Texas Scramble February 9th 2017


Today some 38 Seniors braved the very cold weather with temperatures between 2 and 3 C

Results as follows:

1. Don Wraight/ Dave Palferman/ Cliff Evans and Steve Monk 54.5.....note they are Committee members!

2. Andrew Mitchell/ Bob Brown/Steve Beech and Peter Almond 55,7

3. Malcolm Williams/ Cliff Davies/Dave Jones and Reg Taylor 58.4

4. Derek Lyon/ Barry Dare/Noel Jones and Diane Dare 59.4

5. Maelor Davies/ Mike Hollings/Joe White and Bob Jarvis 60.3

A photo taken on 14th green  below:- Diane Dare taking a very short putt on the 14th green. On the hole Barry hit a long drive down left hand side way past the ditch. He then hit a superb 2nd shot into the rough on right hand side of the green. Diane then chipped to where one can see her putting from for a 4 for her team.

Seniors Winter league 3rd round February 7th 2017

43 turned up today on what turned out to be a beautiful morning to play golf - fine, calm and with temperatures several degrees higher than forecast. The event was the 3rd round of the Seniors Winter League, with results as follows:
1st, scoring 10 points in the league - Roy Jordan with 39 stableford points.

2nd with 9 league points  - Steve Monk with 37 points.

3rd with 8 league points - Chris Jacques with 36 points

4th with 7 league points - Nigel Harris with 35 points. (22 on back 9).

5th with 6 league points - Alan Roberts with 35 points. (19 on back 9)
.
6th with 5 league points - Don Wraight with 35 points. (16 on back 9).

7th with 4 league points - Steve Beech with 33 points.

8th with 3 league points - Harold Hughes with 32 points. (20 on back 9).

9th with 2 league points - Maelor Davies with 32 points. (19 on back 9, of which 12 on last 6).


10th with 1 league point - Reg Peacock with 32 points. (19 on back 9, of which 11 on last 6).


43 played in the two's with 5 achieving a two- Three on the 5th Hole  Roy Jordan , Mike Hollings, Alan  Roberts        and  on the 17th Hole -  Maelor Davies and   Nick Lee
