Golf ruling from Fred June 18th 2016

A question from a recent game. A player plays his ball down the fairway into the semi rough, and walks down to the area his ball is likely to be, and finds a strange ball in that area. By definition his ball is lost after a 5 minute search. Feeling aggrieved because the ball is lost and stroke and distance applies he also believes another player has played his ball, what are his options?
If his group are virtually certain another player was seen to play from that area, he may place another ball where his ball was played from and continue without penalty, however with a ball in the “rough” this option can be tenuous because there is a strong possibility his ball may still be in the area, laying in the rough and not identified. Some more photos of the day below together with video footage to be posted later

The photo below shows bunker in front of the 9th

There were hundreds of poppies growing at one side of the 9th tee as the 2 photos below show. Apparently the poppy can germinate even after hundreds of years of the seeds in the soil

Below John Kelty about to drive off on the 9th

Steve Monk played well today but had a blob on the 13th when he found bunkers twice as can be seen in the video below. He had to drop out behind on the first bunker and then proceeded to put it in the further one. Golf is cruel sometimes. As for Derek who took the video he had a blob...one of many!!

Seniors Texas scramble June 9th 2016

A large number of Seniors bared their legs to play in very hot conditions today. Some other played Honours board competition whilst the Devon crowd are still having a great time.
The weather was about 25-26C all day but when Derek left to travel to Snowdonia it suddenly changed and the temperature steadily dropped along the North Wales coast down to 17c with very heavy rain. After the last tunnel out came the sun again and on arrival at Brynteg Holiday Home Park the weather was glorious once more!

Results from today's competition:-

  1. Bob Brown, Dave Palferman, Cliff Evans and Bill Parrish   59.2
  2. Maelor Davies, Phil Morris, Dave Jones and Bill Kelleher 60.1
  3. Colin Brown, Derek Lyon, Efion Jenkins and Roy Jordan (the Gresford lads) 60.7

Seniors individual Bogey competition June 7th 2016

With over 20 members away on the annual Devon Golfing Holiday, and several others playing in Honours Board knockout matches, today's turnout for the kitty competition was somewhat reduced.

Nevertheless, 19 players were present for a rarely played Individual Bogey competition. Results were:
1st - David Jones on 6 holes up.

2nd - Graham Stokes on 4 holes up.

3rd - Andrew Mitchell also on 4 holes up (on countback).

4th - Bill Hughes, on 3 holes up

From all accounts received via Facebook  from the Devon lads they seem to be having a great time.

Golf rule from Fred June 1st 2016

A saying often heard in regard to the rules of golf. I was asked if a player whose club breaks during a practice swing on the tee is able to use his partners Driver, I answered no I don’t think so to which I had a response, Someone told me I can.

To clear the decks as they say and avoid any unnecessary disqualifications may I Paraphrase from the rule book. 4.3 Damaged Clubs repair and replacement.   If during a round, a player's club is damaged during he normal course of play he may without delay repair the club, or replace the damaged club, but not by borrowing any club selected for play by any other person playing on the course.
