Seniors Poppy Day November 8th 2012

Thursday November 8th The Seniors Annual Poppy Day event

In past years this memorable event was always arranged by one of Clays Seniors Past Captains, Ken Lawrence who sadly passed away earlier this year. This year’s event was once more well supported and in memory of Ken a new Trophy “The Ken Lawrence Memorial Trophy” was presented to the winner. This year it was presented to Bill Kelleher who scored 41pts. Two of Ken’s sons Chris and Glyn also competed in the event. Ken’s daughter Cath also attended at presentation. Kevin Forbes was present, from the Royal British Legion in his capacity as lead fundraiser, to collect the money raised from the Poppy Appeal event. The Trophy was present by Ken’s widow Shirley to Bill with rapturous applause from all the seniors present and in honour of Ken.

The proceeds for the day including the raffle resulted in over £450 for the Royal British Legion. Monies were presented to Kevin Forbes from the Royal British Legion in his capacity as lead fund raiser by Clays Seniors Captain Colin Brown who over saw the presentation and made all announcements. This year the event was organised by Peter Almond and John Kelty.

The results for the day were

1.      Bill Kelleher 41pts

2.      Ray Martin 38pts

3.      Malcolm Williams 38pts
