Weekending August 12th 2011

On August 10th another large number of Clays Seniors played in this Open event at Oswestry http://www.oswestrygolfclub.co.uk/ Excuse me (Derek) talking about our teams of Brian Jones/Tony Harcombe along with myself and Tony Jackson but thought you might like to see the weather conditions! Although the forcaste was heavy rain we missed it BUT it was very windy. The course was dry and in good condition and tested our putting skills as the greens were slick and very fast! Some photos and a video below...the video indicates just how windy it was.

Both teams played well on some holes with a few birdies but on other holes no scores were carded
Tony and Brian had 31 points with myself and Tony with 30pts! As we left the leader board showed at 41pts

Hall of Fame Qualifier Monday August 8th. This year Colin Brown represented Clays in the Regional Final at Tytherington Golf Club. Tony Jackson last years Clays Representative was Colin's caddy.
Players went out in 3 balls with Colin playing alongside Alvin from Ilkley and Alan from Wigan. As they arrived on the 1st tee the rain came and continued to rain on and off coupled with strong winds. Not ideal weather for golf!! The course proved very difficult for all concerned. Colin reported he had never seen so many bunkers surrounding the greens with often up to 6 per hole and each deep enough to bury a golf cart! Colin did however recall geeting out of one of them and getting to within 2 feet of the pin.! Overall the result had a wiiner with 36 points followed by 2 players on 34pts with Alvin one of Colin's playing partners coming in 4th on 33 points. Alvin also won the longest drive but Colin managed to be only a yard or so behind him! Colin would like to thank the organisers and all those members of Clays Seniors who sponsored him and the aim of the competition is to raise money for cancer research. It is believed that the regional final will return to Llangollen Golf Club in 2012.
