Captains Day July 16th 2011

Clays Joint Captains Day report
On Saturday July 16th Captain Reg Peacock and Lady Captain Diane Dare were strongly supported for their special day. Weather forecast turned out to be somewhat wrong and totally different from the dreadful conditions at the British Open. With only a few short showers, interspersed by warm sunshine, almost 160 competitors took part on an immaculately turned out course. Format was Stableford Full handicap with a morning and afternoon session via shot gun start. The evening presentation event in the Club house was packed and 120 people enjoyed a superb sit down meal after which presentations were made to the prize winners followed by local band 'Five past Forty'.
Straightest drive (third hole) was won by Elen Mostyn and Ian Samuels. Nearest the pin in 2 (eleventh) was won by Gareth Parry. Ladies nearest the pin (fifth) was Lady VC Annie Lee and mens (twelth) Junior Captain Patrick McHugh. A golf lesson was awarded to the strongest lady and man, Nicky Beddows and Matt Peacock, who ably propped up the rest of the field. Best junior was Jack Roycroft with Bill Kelleher receiving the senior prize. Best visitors were Pwllheli members Bill Robinson and Jilly Law.
In the overall ladies competition staff member Jo Beddows recorded the best score (39 points) but the prizes were awarded to India Friswell (37), Annie Lee (36) and Elen Mostyn (34). Prizewinners in the men's competition were Richard Edwards (44), Steve Parry (40) and Andy Evans (38). Prizes were also awarded to best non-prize winning score in the morning (Ian Stent) and afternoon (Graham Davidson-Clarke).
A raffle held on the day raised £325 for the Captains charities, Home Start, Family Friends and Cancer Research.
