HAZEL GROVE AM/AM RESULT
Today's Results - Brian has been quicker than me sending e-mails. I returned home (eventually after a lot of traffic) and promptly shot out to my regular Thursday night gathering - hence slightly delayed report. I am going to start with a massive thank you to Brian for booking today's golf. Hazel Grove was not the usual Pairs Betterball but in fact an Am/Am with the best two scores to count - an interesting change. The course (fairways and greens) were in very good condition despite four holes having preferred lies. Some of the fairways were long and their quirky lies and runs overall became a real test of our golf. Everybody enjoyed the course, hence Brian's e-mail. On arrival, bacon and sausages were already cooked and baps on order were served immediately (no delay or worries about first tee). The Senior organisers were friendly and relaxed about information, as well as the pro, who was keen to describe certain holes and how to play them. At the halfway house, three delightful lady members served complimentary, pre-ordered drinks and baked cakes - what's not to like? The longish par threes in the ballsweep for some proved too much of a test but one group in particular came home with two dozen balls between them - well done Alan Barnsdale and Mick McHugh for their twos. Brian will follow up with the final results from the club but our top scores were very much up there when we left.
Result for our kitty comp:
First: Chris Blazdell, Steve Graham, Malcolm Wiliams and Jon Falcus - 82 pts
Second: Nigel Davies, Les Williams, Tom Pierce and Damian Atkin - 81 pts
Third: Brian Beaton, Mike Drake, Dave Palferman and Richard Collier - 80 pts
NOT QUITE THE RYDER CUP VIA MIKE HEALEY
Seniors - My Not Quite the Ryder Cup (but near as damn it) list is complete and has been sent to the elected Captains for selection purposes over the weekend. Each side now has 27 playing members which breaks down into 13 pairs (and one singleton each), who will turn up for battle in a Pairs Betterball competition next Tuesday. Our two Captains have received the final list (attached) and they alone will select the pairings, informing me by noon on Monday. I have included handicaps for Captain's guidance only - they may well have changed interim but the correct handicaps will be checked on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, I am asking all players to turn up before 8.30am, get ready for golf but more importantly, be ready for our annual Ryder Cup photograph at 8.30am on the dot. In the past following the photo, I have read out the draw in groups, which has used up too much time. The draw will be published on a number of sheets and passed round/placed on windows for all to see. This should speed up movement to the tees from the outset. I have asked Luke to forfeit his 8.40am tee, so that we have from 8.40am through to 11.00am, as we require 14 tees in total and as usual we are teeing from the 1st, 16th and 14th tees.
As in previous years, the Wales team are expected to arrive in their traditional red colours and naturally, ROTW should arrive in blue please. Banter, singing and general mickey-taking is compulsory and should be encouraged throughout. At the end, it would help if one person could hand in a single card for the group (all 4 scores together with result), as well as your usual £1.00 competition fee. This will go towards a small but momentous prize for each and every one of the winning side. Should there be yet another tie/draw, then the prizes will be awarded to the winning pairs from each side. The cards will be prepared for you in advance.
Hayley knows about numbers and a food sheet will be posted - don't forget to sign up if you require food. It would be great if as many as possible could remain for the result and presentation at the end. Finally, there are occasional problems and cry-offs, but hopefully it will not happen. I am still short of two Welsh players, who could be accommodated at this late stage. If for any reason anybody else cannot play - please ring or message me as soon as possible: 07716 527332 so that I can make arrangements / adjustments with either of the Captains. MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN - see you on Tuesday. Mike
individual stableford result from Steve MONK
Here comes my second result of the day - I realised latterly that half of the committee at least were travelling to Hazel Grove today and made two phone calls to alert the senior members who were entering today's tally draw/kitty comp. Can I thank Steve Monk for stepping in last minute, conducting the draw, resolving the cards and sending the following report with results.
In the absence of any committee members at Clays today, I was 'volunteered' to organise our kitty competition by the 24 members who were present. We opted to play an individual stableford, playing in 8 x 3-balls.
We played in fine and warm weather and the leading scores were tightly grouped, requiring several countbacks to separate them. The leading 5 scorers who won prizes were....
1st - John Kelty with 40 points
2nd - Colin Brown with 39 points
3rd - Peter Fraser with 38 points, on a back 9 countback ahead of
4th - Paul Cheetham, also with 38 points
5th - Dave A Jones with 36 points, on a back 6 countback from 2 other players also on 36. All 3 of these had the same back 9 score.

INDIVIDUAL STABLEFORD RESULTS VIA MIKE HEALEY
Seniors - I think most players today thought they might have beaten the forecast of rain by 10.00am. Unfortunately, it arrived an hour later with one particular heavy burst, followed by a top up as everybody was finishing. The instructions from the outset were to pick up and walk on if the greenstaff were working on a hole (Maintenance Week). Tom McGrady requested or was it insisted that we sing "Walk on! - Walk o o o on!" but nobody complied and he walked alone! The Senior Captain awarded a par score for each green missed out but thankfully it was not needed. The tees off yellow were placed well forward to protect the tee greens, which in turn, enhanced the scores. The decision before the competition was to declare it a non-qualifier with shortened tees, tyning and sanding of greens. There were three scores of 38 points which didn't even make the prizes and Countback was required for 2nd, 3rd and 4th places - read on for results:
Individual Stableford Results :
First: Brian Beaton 43 points Second: Alan Barnsdale 42 points (c/b) Third: Mick Carnell 42 points (c/b) Fourth: Damian Atkin 42 points (c/b) Fifth: Paul Wallace Jones 39 points

KITTY COMP RESULT FROM STUART
Seniors, good evening, sorry for the late report, had to wrestle my notebook from my granddaughter, who said I can use it for 10 minutes. Firstly thankyou to Chris Blazdell for helping with the draw and a big thank you to Steve Monk who collected the cards, sorted the prize money out and sent me the results. With the team away we still had 24 seniors put their tallies up, perfect for 6 x 4 balls for the Multiplier, well it was 24, till after the draw was made and someone's tally hadn't been put up, so with a quick change the draw was altered to become 4 x 4 balls and 3 x 3 balls. Stuart winch of the week. No problem if you ask someone to put your tally up but please appear for the draw and check it has gone up. Tom McGrady does a superb job checking who's in and putting up tallies and it's a great help, but this time someone else was asked and it wasn't done, so please bear it in mind, winch over.
Sorry for the delay this morning but we had conflicting information about the greenkeepers who were doing the maintenance. Nothing was said about giving priority to them till fortunately Chris Blazdell read an email from Josh saying if the greenkeepers where on the green we had to pick up and move on, made for a difficult competition. Having checked with Josh who then checked with Mark it was agreed that if the green keepers were on a green we had to let them move and then play. Steve in his email to me said all the tees were forward and with aerating of the greens and sanding putting was not ideal, but we knew it was maintenance week and this work has to be done, so we have to do our best.
Result.
3 balls. Chris Jacques, Steve Hannaby, Alan Barnsdale 109 points.
4 balls. Jon Falcus, Steve Williams, John Kelty, Peter Taylor 117 points, c/b on back 9.
Right, sorry for the long winded report, granddaughter wants her computer back now. I'm not there Thursday but hopefully Mike will be, enjoy and catch up next Tuesday.
Cheers.
Stuart.
Away match vs Hawarden
Seniors - 16 of our troops made the journey over to Hawarden GC this morning. A cool start eventually saw a bit of sunshine and warmer conditions. The away greens had been tyned and sanded but putting was not bad at all. Sadly, I have to report that the home team were conquerers on the day by 5 matches to 3 ( quite unusual for Clays to be on the losing side ). Although we like to (and usually do) win, I believe we all enjoyed the company that we kept throughout, some good golf and and a follow up meal afterwards. The Hawarden players are a friendly bunch and we finished thank yous by promising home and away matches next year. There was a ballsweep and the following players received a sleeve of balls: Kev Taylor (HGC) - 2nd, Andy McDougall (Clays) - 11th, Ian Dyment (HGC) - 14th and Dave Knott (HGC) - 18th. There was also the ubiquitous raffle for two bottles of wine which were won by Ian Jones (Clays) and Nigel Crossley (HGC). All in all - a good day. Thank you Malcolm for the organisation.

SENIORS MEDAL RESULT SEPTEMBER 2025 VIA MIKE HEALEY
Seniors - most of us came prepared for the worst of weather forecasts and probably drowned in sweat with all the wet gear. We experienced a couple of showers but nowhere near as bad as expected. For your information, poor Tony Vesty and John Maxted travelled down yesterday to LLandridod Wells for their Welsh Greensomes Final, practised on the very hilly course in extremely windy conditions and struggled (their words). After a good night's sleep (Captain's orders) they woke up to torrential rain, a flooded course and postponement of the competition indefinitely by Wales Golf. I believe we were the lucky ones! So who were the winners in the final summer medal? Firstly, twos were scored by Chris Blazdell on the 5th hole and Richard Collier on the 12th - well done both. The three divisions were won by the following senior members:
Division 1: 1st - Jon Falcus nett 67, 2nd - Dave Palferman nett 68 , 3rd - Reg Peacock nett 70
Division 2: 1st - Lizzie Hart nett 67 . 2nd - Mick Carnell nett 70 , 3rd - Dave Fergus nett 72
Division 3: 1st - Mike Drake nett 63 , 2nd - John Kelty nett 68 , 3rd - Steve Graham nett 71
Congratulations to the top three in each division and well done to all who took part today. From and administration point of view, Don had to go searching for cards at the end and 1 or 2 cards were placed in the old competition desk in the foyer. Reminder - all senior cards now go in the BLACK BOX marked SENIORS and it is normally in the bar area afterwards. If you can't find it, leave your card with somebody else or ask a member of the committee. Even more troubling is the fact that there were 3 cards missing (37 paid entries - only 34 cards). This affects the number in each division and leaves the Treasurer in a quandary as to how much is paid out for the winners. If you enter a medal - PLEASE make sure you enter scores in ig (34 did) and place your card in the black box (34 did). Next Stableford Medal - 2nd October
