Report from Bob Brown on the presentation on the Captains dinner dance March 29th 2019


Thank you to Bob Brown for sending this report and photo from the Captains dinner dance on Friday 29th 2019


 The picture shows the amount of £2,000 being presented to each of the two schools nominated by the Captains at their dinner dance. Money is going towards provision of equipment for the sensory department at Y Canol, and towards the purchase of a new minibus in the case of St Christopher's. Both very worthy local causes.

Ray Mortell Trophy March 26th 2019


A lovely day for golf with sunshine and some cool winds.

RESULTS BELOW:-

  1. Stewart Poole with 41 points. That included a blob on the 8th!
  2. Frank Rodenhurst 39 points. Frank had a superb round only to be let down with a singlepoint on 4 holes but he did have two 2s in his round.
  3. Reg Peacock 39 points
  4. Mike Drake 38 points
  5. Malcolm Williams 38 points. Malcolm had a 2 on the 16th! His drive was followed by an 8 iron which sent the ball straight into the hole for 5 points.
  6. Mike Kalka 38 points
  7. Jonathan Falcus 37 points
  8. Dave A Jones 37 points

Peter Bowen ran the 2's competition and results as follows:-

Frank Rodenhurst had a 2 on the 2nd and 5th holes

Pairs betterball March 21st 2019

Seniors Pairs Betterball  -  Thursday 21st March

Sadly, many of our senior members were at the funeral of Eifion Jenkins today and our thoughts are with the family. 33 members turned out for our Pairs Betterball competition, in what became lovely golfing conditions weatherwise. The following four pairs took prize money and the results stand as follows:
1st  -  Tony Jackson and Irwin Elkin  -  46 points

2nd  -  Harold Hughes and Damian Atkin   -  43 points (on countback) 

3rd  -  Tom Pierce and  Dilly Jones  -  43 points

4th  -  Dave Palferman and Alan Bottomley  -   42 points (on countback)

Prize money in the twos competition was split between:
Mike Turner on the Fifth hole and Alan Bottomley on the seventeenth

Bonus Ball competition at home and Hawarden Match away March 19th 2019



Thanks to Steve Monk for providing the bonus ball results and to Bob Brown for the 2s results. Don Wraight Seniors Captain provided the match result.

With 16 seniors playing an away match at Hawarden today, a further 39 turned up at Clays to play a Bonus Ball competition. 13 teams of 3 played in very good conditions for golf. Whilst the 2nd hole was closed, and the 1st, 11th and 16th holes were shortened, the remainder of the course had survived the wet conditions the day before and provided a competitive competition. Results were:

1st - Peter Taylor, Ian Ketland and Dave A Jones with a score of 142 points.

2nd - Mike Healey, Bob Brown and Mick Carnell with 137 points.

3rd - Reg Peacock, Nigel Harris and Roy Jordan with 133 points.

Mike Healey and Bob Brown also kindly organised a 2's competition, the winners being Mike Parks on the 12th and Dilly Jones on the 5th

In the match vs Hawarden Clays lost 5 1/2 to 2 1/2

Because the course was closed today, The Ray Mortell Memorial Trophy, scheduled for today, will now be played for on Tuesday, 26th March (weather permitting of course!). The '9 x 3' +'9 x 2' originally planned for that day will now be cancelled.

Texas Scramble March 5th 2019

Today, 41 seniors played a Texas Scramble competition with 8 x 4-ball teams and 3 x 3-balls.

The usual handicap adjustment was made to the 3-ball teams so they could compete on level terms with the 4-balls.
Results were:

1st - Richard Key, Colin Evans, Frank Rodenhurst and Mike Kalka with a score of 52.9.

2nd - Don Wraight, Andrew Mitchell, Peter Fey and Tony Harcombe with 54.5.

3rd - Russ Adamson, Keith Hawthorn, Colin Brown and Malcolm Williams with 58.0.
