Tom McGrady supplied details of the 2's competition: 32 members entered with just 3 winners, namely Don Wraight on the 5th, Nigel Harris on the 12th and Mike Malia on the 17th.

Course is beginning to look good, needs dry weather. Green staff working on bunkers and fairways have been cut

St Davids Day competition March 27th 2018

This annual event had already been postponed twice due to inclement weather. Today it got underway albeit in cold conditions with occasional rain showers. All the holes were open with a temporary green on the 2nd. When all players returned to the club house they enjoyed a bowl of warning soup along with sandwiches and cake kindly prepared and served by Hayley and her staff. Don Wraight our Seniors Captain acted as the MC for the occasion and for the presentations.

Multiplier competition March 22nd 2018

Today the weather was quite mild for a change and the course in good condition. Todays competition was played over 17 holes with hole 2 closed and the 11th set out as shortened par 3 hole.

40 Seniors played in 10 x 4 balls.

Results as follows:

1. Mike Hollings, Malcolm Williams, Russ Adamson and Nigel Davies  127 points
2. Stuart Leyland, Peter Bowen, Cliff Davies and Harold Hughes  123 points
3. Joe White, Richard Key, Steve Monk and Roy Jones  109 points

In the 2's competition there were 4 winners namely John Kelty and Tony Jackson on the 5th and Mike Hollings and Nigel Davies on the 1st

Texas scramble March 20th 2018

Recently the course has been closed on several days due to the bad weather...snow and wet conditions.

Steve Monk kindly provided the following report.

With the course recovering from the weekend snow and frost, 15 holes were open for play and it was good to see that the course as a whole is drying out well.

37 players participated in a Texas Scramble, with 3 x 3-balls and 7 x 4-balls competing. Results were:

1st - Chris Jacques, Barry Evans, Keith Hawthorn and Malcolm Williams with a score of 47.1

2nd - Cliff Davies, Nigel Harris, Tony Harcombe and Nigel Davies with 47.4

3rd - Martin Povey, Frank Rodenhurst, David Lloyd and Mike Drake also with 47.4 (on countback)

Individual Stableford March 15th 2018 & recent Match results

Nigel Davies submitted the following information

Today, 17 Seniors played an individual stableford competition over 15 holes, with the 2nd, 15th and 16th closed.

Results as follows :

1st Martin Povey  38pts

2nd Bob Jarvis  34 pts

3rd Malcolm Williams  30pts

4th Mike Drake  29pts (countback)

It  was very wet underfoot in places and some of the greens were very damp but, overall, the course is looking good considering the weather recently. 

The new tee box signs are now in place and they look really good.

We played Holywell away on Tuesday March 13th and managed to play 18 holes although played 3 twice! We enjoyed a really good day-in sunshine-unfortunately lost 6-4!!

The match against Hawarden (away) on Thursday March 15th was postponed because of the wet course! 

Seniors Match vs Mold at home and kitty competition March 8th 2018

Derek is away in Snowdonia and last night we had heavy snow fall but apparently none at Clays. Golf results  posted below from Andrew Mitchell

Match against Mold went ahead today. Weather turned out to be fine, bright and sunny but chill breeze.

Course was wet naturally with  16/17 closed.  1^st a par 3, 2^nd temp green, 11^th par 3 temp green.  Course otherwise playing well and improving.

Hayley provided us with an excellent meal, Roast Beef carvery with all the trimmings followed by a apple crumble desert.

Bar was manned by Phil and his wife Gaynor.

5 x 2’s were recorded all by Clays players.
