Texas Scramble Thursday January 27th 2022. Report from Mike Healey.

I am running out of superlatives for the January weather, the winter into spring development of the course and last but not least - your company. Despite overnight rain, the course was running dry and the greens relatively quick for this time of year. We enjoyed 11 degrees of sunshine for most of the round and the conviviality afterwards was once again to the fore. A slightly awkward number of 39 might have been resolved with 13 three balls but we played 5 x threeball and 6 x fourball in our Texas Scrambles, with two prizes for each section. There was no countback at all today - the combined handicaps sorted the results for us. There will be pairings already made inside an envelope and at the close, pairs are put together from that number. The two best scores added together etc. will take the prizes. Everybody has to play their best so as not to let their potential (unknown) partner down.

No less than 41 members arrived for the draw this morning, which made an odd number for a Pairs competition but we coped. The course was good - the greens very good and the weather superb for a January day but might have been just a little warmer. Once again, the scores were tight at the top with quite a few cards returning 60 points plus. There were five prizes in total and a lot of countback required. A cold start for everybody this morning. The fairways were rock hard to the extent that balls were pinging all over in places and any long putts were gathering frost and looking like mini snowballs. No complaints - all 34 members experienced the same conditions. Another superb day for golf. First tee starters were met with frosty greens and -1c temperature. Although the temperature didn't exactly hit the heights later on, the sun came through and playing conditions were pleasant. 36 members played and 13 of the 18 cards returned par (26 points over 13 holes) or above. A good number were stuck on 28/29 points - not enough. Read on for the winners - there were four cash prizes. Round 3 Seniors Winter League results from Mike Healey January 11th 2022

Another good turnout for Round 3 of our Senior Winter League. 37 members made the draw and scoring was once again tight at the top, with lots of countback, barring the top 2 places. The ground conditions were sticky but still drying out and greens good for this time of year. The weather was kind and all remained dry throughout. Round 4 will be held on Tuesday 25th January. There were Kitty comp cash prizes for the first 7 places. Seniors Waltz competition January 4th 2022. Results via Steve Monk and Mike Healey

Seniors - Happy New Golfing Year. 25 members arrived today for the New Year Waltz - some still trying to shed the after effects of hangovers and some simply needing a dose of welcoming fresh air. The course is still drying out and soft in places after the heavy rain last week but the greens are very good for this time of year. The groundstaff have worked very hard at clearing the remains of the fallen trees and we can only hope that the weather remains kind to us through to the summer. The organiser Mike Healey was absent today so his thanks are extended to Steve Monk for resolving the cards and sorting prizes. Three 3 balls and 4 four balls meant that there were two separate competitions being played and therefore only one prize for each section. New Year Waltz - 3 Ball: Scores - 48 points, 54 points and winners: Bill Kelleher, Harold Hughes and Alan Pocklington 58 points New Year Waltz - 4 Ball: Scores - 62 points, 65 points, 66 points and winners: Ken Tieszen, Bob Brown, Richard Collier and Dave Jones 68 points.
