Waltz competition April 30th 2019

Thanks to Mike Healey for sending the results

Mike was recently at a beer festival in Munich with Graham Bryne. It was Graham's daughter who provided the photos.

43 seniors enjoyed the warm weather today and despite not many finding their rhythm in the Waltz, one or two good scores were recorded. Because of the number, there was a split competition for both three balls and four balls -

Three Balls -

First  -  Richard Key, Frank Rodenhurst, Mike Drake        (73 points)

Second - Mike Griffiths, Tony Jackson, Irwin Elkin            (67 points)

Four Balls -

First - Peter Fraser, Chris Jacques, Ralph Hardy, Colin Brown  (78points)

Second - Peter Fey, Colin Evans, Bob Brown, Ray Jones  (75points)

A Twos competition was organised and only one person (who shall remain nameless) recorded not one but two "Twos". Alas, his 20p was missing from the initial pot so the money (£6.20) rolls over to the next Twos comp.

    Greensomes April 11th 2019

Mike Healey kindly provided the results for today. Derek was busy on the course getting thrashed by Barry Dare in the first round of the singles competition!

    39 Seniors competed today.

Another lovely day for golf and the course is getting better all the time. The greens still sported a bit of sand but totally understandable in maintenance week! "Greensomes" is not always everybody's cup of tea but some good golf was played overall  -

First Place  -      Alan Bottomley and John Kelty        (38 points)

Second Place  - Malcolm Williams and Colin Brown   (37 points)

Third Place  -     Stewart Poole and Keith Jones         (36 points on countback)

Fourth Place  -   Nigel Davies and John Falcus           (36 points on countback)

Fifth Place  -     Alan Barnsdale and Mike Healey       (36 points)

Las Vegas competition April 9th 2019

Mike Healey submitted the following report. Thanks Mike.

A great day for golf weather-wise and 20 pairs turned out to take full advantage of it. One person forgot to put his tally in and sadly ended up without a game!  There were a number of temporary greens due to ground staff working on the greens, spiking, sanding, cutting etc. For that reason we played a Las Vegas competition instead of the planned 'qualifier'. As one would expect, there were some high scores requiring calculators but also some tight scores on the leader board now that we are getting the hang of the scoring.

    Results  -

Ist Place  -  Martin Povey and Damian Atkin               (635 points)

2nd Place - Malcolm Williams and Dave Palferman      (652 points)

3rd Place - Peter Taylor and Tony Jackson                  (655 points)

4th Place - Mike Healey and Russ Adamson               (696 Points)

    5th Place - Dave A Jones and John Kelty                    ( 705 points)

A Twos competition was held with a £6.00 carry over from last week. 37 players entered but 36 wished that they hadn't. There was only one winner  -  Russ Adamson on the 5th and he collected the princely sum of £13.40 - well done Russ.

Captains Drive in April 6th 2019

The annual spectacle of Club Captain-Nigel Davies,  and Lady Captain- Dawn Thompson, took place on Saturday April 6th 2019

Some photos of the event below and results can be seen after the photos.

Our new club captain Nigel Davies is well known to all seniors as a past caption of the Seniors section. Many seniors supported the event either by participating in the competition or, witnessing Nigel’s attempt to warm up by hitting balls off extended tees. Score one out of three!!! Overall, 63 members participated in the competition with one Jon Falcus winning the senior prize. One highlight of the day was a 2 on the second green by Nigel: Captain’s luck.

    Individual Stableford April 4th 2019

These results were kindly supplied by Mike Healey

Result for Thursday 4th April: The original medal had been changed for a Las Vegas competition but only nineteen brave souls turned out so it was further changed into an individual Stableford. Had members who stayed at home seen the forecast we must ask? The weather was fine but cool at 9.00am, a temperature drop arrived at 11.00ish and the rain and wind followed shortly afterwards. All who finished deserved a medal for their perseverance (and not all finished!!) Four prizes in total  -

First place  -      Nigel Harris  (33 points  -  on count back)

Second Place  - John Falcus (33 points)

Third Place  -     Mike Healey (32 points)

Fourth Place  -  Stuart Poole  (31 points)

There was not a competition held for twos
