St Davids Day cancelled February 27th 2018

Due to heavy snow today this event was cancelled and rearranged for March 6th, Don has emailed out the revised list of players and tee times.

Bob Brown indicated that there was no play today, although some 30 odd poor souls turned up to enjoy a Welsh Cake, coffee, and usual banter.

Seniors Captain Don Wraight  took the opportunity to present the Winter League prizes, and below is photo of Don presenting the winners prize to Martin Povey, who won with a creditable 44 points.

Bonus Ball February 22nd 2018

Explanation of scoring for Bonus Ball (previously called Yellowish Ball).
This is played as a stableford competition, ideally in 4-ball teams.
At every hole all four stableford scores count towards the team total, and a 'bonus' score is added. The bonus score is derived as follows.
At all holes on the front 9 of the course (holes 1 to 9 inclusive), the lowest stableford points score from the 4 team members is added as the bonus score.
At all holes on the back 9 of the course (holes 10 to 18 inclusive) the highest stableford points score from the 4 team members is added as the bonus score.
Some examples:-
On Hole 1, say, the 4 players record scores of 6/2, 4/3, 6/1, 5/2. The bonus score is the lowest of these, i.e. 1. So the team total for the hole is 9.
On Hole 7, say, the 4 players record scores of 5/2, 6/2, 5/3, 7/0. The bonus score is the lowest of these, i.e. 0. So the team total for the hole is 7.
On hole 10, the 4 scores are 4/4, 6/2, 5/2, 6/1. The bonus score is the highest of these, i.e. 4. So the team total for the hole is 13.

On hole 17, the 4 scores are 3/3, 4/2, 6/0, 5/1. The bonus score is the highest of these, i.e. 3. So the team total for the hole is 9.

Today was pleasant but cold. At least there was no rain and the sun did come out twice!!

Derek had been off for a few weeks and it was he who forgot to put money in the kitty!!....naughty boy. His step meter recorded he walk 7.92 miles today!

Results:

  1. Cliff Davies, Joe White, Mike Kalka and Graham Bryne 165 points
  2. Steve Monk, Colin Brown, Tony Harcombe and Tom McGrady 158 points
  3. Peter Lynch, John Kelty, Alwyn Williams and Colin Evans  156 points

In the 2's competition there were 3 winners:

Graham Byrne and Colin Evans on the first hole and Nigel Davies on the 12th.....nice chip in from off the front of the green.

Some photos taken today with comments below

Course looking good showing just some of the improvements to the path on way to 6th tee.Well done to our greenstaff.

Golf is a funny old game! Roy Jordan had just come off the 7th with a gross 4 and 4 points. His drive on the 8th was however a lot to be desired. His drive was topped and ball went about 3 metres. Here is Roy placing his ball in the rough ready for his 2nd shot. Yellow tees can just be seen behind him!
