Kitty competition September 30th 2014 - format team event best 2 scores front 9 and best 3 scores back 9


Winners were Peter Fraser, Malcolm Williams, Tony Owens and Cliff Evans  104 points

Runners up were Mike Griffiths, Irwin Elkin, Derek Lyon and Mike Drake with  102 points

Mike Drake narrowly missed out on an ace on the 5th with his ball finishing only 2 inches from the hole. Mind you on the same hole Derek landed at the back of the green and his putt hit the hole but lipped out! Mike however did not miss his putt and got his 2.


Half way down the 7th fairway Reg had his "snappin" as can be seen below. His food was nicely laid out on specially designed part of his buggy..nice one Reg!

SELECTION OF WHOSE SCORE IS GOING TO BE RECORDED MUST BE DONE AFTER EACH HOLE AND NOT AT THE END OF THE ROUND. GOOD JUDGEMENT MUST BE USED IN THE CHOOSING OF WHOSE SCORE TO RECORD IN THE EARLY PART OF THE ROUND.     GROSS  SCORES ARE RECORDED ON THE CARD AFTER EACH HOLE THEN TOTALLED FOR THE EIGHTEEN HOLES.   THE COMBINED HANDICAP IS  THEN DEDUCTED TO FIND THE LOWEST NET.          EASY

Dave Riley and Kim Harcombe of Clays Golf Centre won the Welsh Northern Counties Mixed Purves Knockout. The competition is played from May each yearand Dave and Kim beat couples from Penmaenmawr, Denbigh and Abersoch to get to the final. The final between Dave and Kim of Clays and David Evans and Muriel Jones of St Melyd was held at Prestatyn Golf Club. The match was eventually won in a hotly contested match by Dave and Kim on the 19th hole

News from Golf Trip to Mid Wales via Bob Brown


Day 1 - BorthYnylas - winner Bob Brown
Day 2 - Cardigan - winner Jack Brown
Day 3 - Newport Links - winner Bob Brown but not allowed to win twice so went to John
Day 4  - Final day - Penrhos - overall highest aggregate score over 4 days. Tied Jack and John on 114 Bob 113 Colin and Rod bringing up the rear. Great courses and hotel and company. Trip organised by Colin Williams attended by Bob Brown,  Jack Brown, Rodney Evans & Colin Williams and guest John who is a member at Llangollen. Mike Turner sadly had to pull out after suffering an accident last week.

Seniors Texas Scramble September 11th 2014


On yet another lovely sunny day a large number of Seniors took part in the Texas scramble. 3 Drives each

1. Bob Brown, Joe White, Mike Griffiths and Paul White  57

2. Andrew Mitchell, Mike Hollings, Jim Murphy and Phil Morris  57.2

3. Don Wraight. Stewart Poole, Keith Jones and Graham Stokes 57.5

Roy Jones, a Seniors Past Captain can be seen below driving off the 13th tee. The teams 3rd shot was messed up by all team members and a putt of some 7 feet was needed. Although his team did not take Roy's  drive the team did get a par due to Derek sinking a difficult down hill putt!!

Seniors Stableford September 9th 2014 plus Hollywell away match


Those seniors who did not play in the away match at Holywell enjoyed an individual stableford competition at home in the warm sunshine. Results as follows:-

  1. Eifion Jenkins with 41 points. That included one blob on the 16th and a one pointer on the 15th
  2. Tony Jackson 36pts
  3. Andrew Mitchell 35pts

The Holywell match resulted in a win for the home side Holywell by 6 matches to 4. Noel Jones for Clays carded a 2.
