Seniors Stableford and 1st round of winter Grand Prix

Todays event was the first of the winter's Grand Prix events. Format was stableford and points awarded to the top 10 players as below.

Not only did Nigel Davies have a superb round but also did Tony Griffiths who carded 3 birdies and almost had an eagle two on the 6 th with his ball pictching to within 1 foot of the flag. The other 3 players in the group namely Derek Lyon, Tony Owens and Tom Mara all had "blobs" and in the words of Tom "3 blobs and a birdie"

Texas Scramble November 19th 2013

As the Seniors turned up to play the weather took a turn for the worse. Hail, sleet and winds which meant several members decied not to play. Those who did decide to brave the conditions saw an improvement and even saw several sunny periods which meant all who did play had a good day albeit somewhat chilly!
Results as follows:-

1.     Dave Jones, Peter Fraser and Barry Evans 62.5

2.     Bill Hughes, Peter Lynch and Richard Key 63.7

3.     Stewart Poole, Mike Kalka and Noel Jones 64.5

 

 

There was a very odd moment during the team playing consisting of Eifion Jenkins, Derek Lyon and Mike Goring. On the 7th hole Mike indicated he would lay up following Derek's drive. His shot was very good and appeared to land in the pond on the 7th only to be somewhat suprised when he heard a metallic sound as his ball hit the pipe in the pond and then went quite a long way up the fairway for the team to then play their 3rd shot.

Ken Lawrence Memorial Trophy November 12th 2013

This was the second time this event was held. Last year the Trophy was won by Bill Kelleher. This year the Club Vice-Captain Ernie Williams won with a great score of 42 points. Some £203 was raised and will be donated to the Poppy Appeal via John Kelty.
The Trophy was presented as per last year by Ken's widow who was accompanied by some of her family. Colin Brown the Seniors Captain introduced the family and announced the winner and raffle winners.

Thank you from Margaret Hollings for money donated by the Seniors

Margaret Hollings has sent a letter of thanks to the Seniors for the £170 they donated to her Everest Base Camp Trek. All monies  are going to Nightingale Hospice, Wrexham which costs £7K per day to run. In total Margaret has up to now collected over £3k...will done for a very worthy cause. Her letter of thanks is on the Seniors notice board.
