April 30th Aldersey Green away match and home Kitty competition

Clays Seniors lost by 8.5 to 1.5 away at Aldersey Green. However 3 Clays members carded 2's..namely Harold Hughes, Mike Hollings and Ray Jones.

The remaining seniors played and individual stableford at home. The weather was superb with the sun shining all morning. Results as follows..

2. Ron Roberts  34pts with better back 9

Mike Turner's 10 mile Charity Walk and monies raised

Just a note to let all the Seniors and others know that Mike and "Dolly" (his Border Terrier Dog) completed the walk today and thanks to all the seniors who sponsored him. Mike raised £130.

The day was very cool and windy but some very brave and courageuos people completed this annual walk. Some pictures below.

Seniors Medal April 25th 2013

The medal draw a large number of Seniors and with the course in good condition some great scores were carded. Mike Carding even had an eagle 2 on the 16th with a drive and rescue club...well done.

A large turnout of Seniors today to play in the yellow ball competition. Teams of 3

    Three ball two scores out of three to count. 39 participated.

 

 

Format was teams of 3 with best 2 scores to count

Derek Lyon's team only came home with 74 pts but Derek managed to play his ball from a very tricky position in front of a tree stump on the 18th.....and managed to get a 5!!

Despite a very cold day the Seniors won against Henlle seniors by 5.5 matches to 4.5
2 players recorded 2's namely Barry Evans of Clays and Alan from Henlle.

Despite a cold and bitter start to the event things soon warmed up as some excellent scores were recorded over the 16 holes open. 16th and 17th were closed.

An amusing event was photographed on the 11th hole were Bob Jarvis attempted to cut the corner on the left handside. His ball was found in the hedge unfortunately out of bounds otherwise he might have attempted to play it! Ah...there it is!

                                            Suffice it to say Bob did not score on the hole!!

A great day at Mold, apart from the golf. The weather cooperated despite some early frost, the course was in excellent condition and the hospitality shown by both players and staff at the club was second to none.
Now for the main event, the score was a NARROW!! defeat for Clays by 8 - 2

St Patricks Day competition March 12th 2013

This popular annual event was this year organised by Peter Almond, Cliff Lloyd and Don Wraight who also managed to organise some lovely sunny weather albeit very cold though!
Some 52 Seniors took part and the event was followed by the usual customary meal in the Club House of stew or chicken followed by a sweet. Colin Brown Seniors Captain presented the prizes.
The format was teams of 4 with all four stableford scores counting. Only one "2" was recorded by John Kelty. The player on the day who scored the highest individual score won the Ray Mortell memorial trophy. This year it went to Dilly Jones one of the members of the winning team. Some videos of a couple of players at end of this page. Have sound on!!
Results as follows:-
In first place Tom McGrady, Reg Peacock, Ron Roberts and Dilly Jones with 132 points
Runners up were Derek Lyon, Malcolm Williams, Bill Kelleher and Barry Dare with 128 points.

Nearly St Davids Day February 28th 2013

Superb weather for this very prestigious competition. Past Seniors Captain Roy Jones sponsored the event with a trophy and additional monetary prizes. The present Seniors Captain Colin Brown announced the various winners who were then presented with their prizes by Roy Jones
