Seniors Medal July 12th 2012

The weather was glorious today with no excuses for poor scores.
However Derek managed to come last  in  the medal. One would have thought he had never played golf
before!! Mind you he did par the 9th!

Some photos of the day below

Above shows Malcolm Williams in bunker at the 9th. He chipped out and got his par! Derek did
likewise from same bunker to get his par!

Above shows Derek's ball after his drive on 15th....came to rest within yellow line on
far side of ditch..hence could not ground club. Took rescue club and ball went back into ditch
Dropped under penalty etc and from there managed a 9!

On Saturday July 14th Clays Seniors member Bill Kelleher won the Seniors prize on Captains Day..well done Bill

Henlle match away June 26th 2012

Result was a resounding win for Henlle by 8 games to 2 I'm afraid.
The following is a report from Bob Brown Clays Vice Captain and past Seniors Captain
Maelor Davies and Bob won their game, thanks to a remarkable bunker shot from Maelor on the 17th.
Their opponents were both on the green for 3, on the par 4 17th hole.Bob having 'fluffed' his 3rd shot was on for 4, but some distance from the pin. Maelor's 3rd shot had ended in the greenside bunker.

At that point they were 1 hole down, and Bob had commented to Maelor that it looked likely that they would lose on this hole, or at best, record a half, to leave the match dependent upon them securing a win on the 18th to half the game overall.

Maelor was having none of it, and in playing his bunker shot, he thinned the ball resulting in it flying across the green, some 4 feet above the ground. The ball then struck the pin with such force that the pin caught the ball a second time, applying miraculous 'back spin', which allowed the ball, which had hit the green some 6 inches away from the hole, to suddenly hop straight in! The sight of this special skill, put off their opponents to the extent that they both missed their putts. Hole to Bob and Maelor, and match all square.
Bob and Maelor both hit good drives on the 18th, followed by good 2nd shots, leaving them both on the par 4 green for 3. Having a shot on that hole, Bob sank his putt to secure the win.
Their opponents, and hosts, were magnanimous in defeat, and all agreed that Maelor's bunker shot was a once in a lifetime feat, which Alistair Wright ( Seniors Captain at Henlle) felt worthy of a special mention in his after match address!

On  most Friday mornings a small "select" band of  Seniors play a friendly
Stableford game. June 8th was no exception and Tom McGrady took the spoils with a very
creditable 38points and that with a "blob" on the 18th. In fact he had two 4 pointers off his
23 handicap! A video of Tom on the 17th tee below...and he hit the green!
