WINTER LEAGUE ROUND 1 FROM MIKE HEALY
Seniors - Only 22 members appeared for Round 1 of the Senior Winter League. I believe quite a number had their eye on the weather but although cold and breezy we got away with the conditions. Melting snow prior to the day(week) had left quite a number of holes unplayable and we played our new Winter 9 hole course to get the League going. The 9 holes off our new elevated mat tees have proved popular but members are still trying to get their heads round the different hole indices which change for the shortened course. We got there in the end and as usual the winner received 10 league points for his endeavours, reducing down to 1 point for 10th place. Given the shortened course, there was always going to be a fair amount of countback because of stableford scores being close:
First - Damian Atkin (19 points) Second - Don Wraight (19 points) Third - Graham Wright (19 points) Fourth - Mick Carnell (17 points) Fifth - Alan Barnsdale (17 points) Sixth - Mike Healey (17 points) Seventh - Richard Collier (17 points) Eighth - Paul Cheetham (16 points) Ninth - Ernie Williams (15 points) Tenth - Jon Falcus (14 points).
