Pauline Peacock's Charity Climb of Tryfan, North Wales May 21st 2015
Clays Lady Captain Climbs Tryfan for Cancer Research UK
Tryfan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pauline Peacock, accompanied by husband Reg, (after he'd played a golf competition) and both novices to this wonderful mountain of ours, set off enthusiastically in lovely sunshine. Unfortunately we were too eager and never reached the Heather terrace but instead climbed upwards on the East side rather quickly! After panics, leg shakes, pulling, shoving up horrible gullies, we arrived at the top - of the False Tryfan!
Reg took a photo as I didn't know if we could reach the summit, it looked like we needed ropes! But around the corner on the West side was a safer path and no problems after that. We picnicked in the sunshine and had wonderful views, We'd seen 3 lots of Harrier jets passing below us but then a large slow plane came passed we weren't sure if it was a Hurricane. What an experience but not to be repeated by us! It took us less than 4 hours, time to play a round of golf, Think we will stick to that in the future! 2. Reg Taylor and Steve Monk 66 points on countback
3. Dave Roberts and Ian Ketland 66 points
An interesting observation was seen near the 13th tee today when these 2 teams decided they would have a rest and a chat before teeing off...no names mentioned!!

Seniors Stableford and Open news from Vale Royal and Arscott May 14th 2015
Although 44 players played at either Arscott or Vale Royal today, another 13 made it to the club for a kitty comp. Because the numbers were low an individual stableford was played rather than the planned 9x2 + 9x3.The weather was cold compared to yesterday's warm sunshine but it stayed dry. Results were:
1st: Dave F Jones, 37 points
2nd: Graham Stokes, 36 points
3rd: Irwin Elkin, 31 points
At Arcott the weather was really "horrid" It rained for most of the day which was a great shame as it is a beautiful course which is shown it all its glory in sunshine. We saw no sun all day. Mind you Colin Brown despite his bad back managed to birdie the index 1 par 4 9th. It just less than 400 yards but is guarded by 2 bunkers. Colin hit an enormous drive (this hole was for the longest drive and he was only a few feet off that!) His 2nd shot came to rest within 3 feet of the pin and he holed out for a birdie 3 and 4 points. Colin is now basking in 35c so it should do his back good.
Typical scene at Arscott with brollies up! |
Another gloomy view at Arscott |
Apparently Vale Royal was dry but somewhat cold and was enjoyed by all who played there,

Clays seniors vs Eastham Lodge away match
Clays Seniors lost by 6 matches to 4. It was a close game and if halved matches had gone the way of Clays Clays could have come away with an honourable draw.

Clays Seniors match vs Old Padeswood-away Friday May 8th 2015
Result of today's match away at Old Padeswood. A win for Clays 5.5-2.5, a good result given we were away.
Seniors Medal May 7th 2015
There were some excellent scores despite the dreadful weather. We had periods of very heavy rain interspersed with periods of warm sunshine...very odd and not what was forecast?
I (Derek ) had the most dreadful round with a gross 110 - net 88. This was down to my trolley battery packing in which resulted in me pushing it for 14 holes!! I had 5 8's. Hence I felt awful with the resulting bad back! But that is nothing compared with our Senior Captain who had a 13 on the 13th. He started with 5 off the tee and went downhill from there! Hard luck Colin who came in with a gross 100.
