May 23rd Seniors match vs Wrexham Seniors at Clays

The teams all arrived as planned to start the day with coffees. BUT.....the rains came along with the wind before the teams set off. Not only that but hailstones had fallen locally e.g. Gresford. Colin Brown, Clays Seniors Captain was in the first team to set off only to return to the start again after only taking some 2 shots. He indicated it was too cold to play and the event was cancelled. It was the correct decision because for the next couple of hours the weather remained the same with heavy showers and more hailstones. The temperature was between 5-6C.....and it is nearly the end on May! Derek set off for North Wales only to be astonished at the improving weather after Colwyn Bay were the sun was shining and the temperature was indicated at between 11-12C on the car temperature guage. Even the roads showed no signs of it having rained as well! Arriving in Snowdonia even small amounts of snow could be seen on Snowdon!

On May 13th Clays Seniors lost away to Eastham Lodge by 8.5 matches to 1.5

Seniors Open at Arscott Golf Club near Shrewsbury May 9th 2013

A large contingent of Clays Seniors competed at http://www.arscottgolfclub.co.uk/ in a pairs betterball stableford competition. The weather was atrocious with high winds and rain for most of the day and temperatures only around 10C.

Some gossip and photos below. More photos have been added via the official photographer on the first tee.

Colin Brown (Seniors Captain) along with his partner Tom McGrady had 34 points which was the highest score of all of the Clays competitors..well done!

Derek had an unfortunate shot on the 17th tee. In high winds and driving rain Tom hit a superb shot to about 1 o'clock on the green and then had 2 putts for his 3. Then Derek took a rescue club and after teeing his ball up took his shot not only to see where the ball went but to lose  his grip on the club which ended up some 30 yards away to the left of the tee. Applause started from some other members including Mike Turner who just happened to be passing in his car on his way home. He had stopped to allow Derek to play his shot and indicated he wished he had videod the event!

April 30th Aldersey Green away match and home Kitty competition

Clays Seniors lost by 8.5 to 1.5 away at Aldersey Green. However 3 Clays members carded 2's..namely Harold Hughes, Mike Hollings and Ray Jones.

The remaining seniors played and individual stableford at home. The weather was superb with the sun shining all morning. Results as follows..

2. Ron Roberts  34pts with better back 9

3. Geoff Morris  34pts

Mike Turner's 10 mile Charity Walk and monies raised

Just a note to let all the Seniors and others know that Mike and "Dolly" (his Border Terrier Dog) completed the walk today and thanks to all the seniors who sponsored him. Mike raised £130.

The day was very cool and windy but some very brave and courageuos people completed this annual walk. Some pictures below.

Seniors Medal April 25th 2013

The medal draw a large number of Seniors and with the course in good condition some great scores were carded. Mike Carding even had an eagle 2 on the 16th with a drive and rescue club...well done.

A large turnout of Seniors today to play in the yellow ball competition. Teams of 3

Derek Lyon's team only came home with 74 pts but Derek managed to play his ball from a very tricky position in front of a tree stump on the 18th.....and managed to get a 5!!

Despite a very cold day the Seniors won against Henlle seniors by 5.5 matches to 4.5
2 players recorded 2's namely Barry Evans of Clays and Alan from Henlle.
