WALES VS REST OF THE WORLD

Seniors - a late night memo which you won't mind. I have received a number of requests for next month's calendar, as members are looking at dates for a variety of reasons. Stuart and I have been working on those calendar dates, firstly with the postponed Ryder Cup event in mind and also, a couple of Opens and matches to squeeze in. Please find the September calendar attached. I am going down to play at the club on Sunday morning and I will post a copy on the board and in reception as per usual. There will also be a sign-up sheet for the "Not Quite the Ryder Cup" event. This has proven to be a popular event in the first three years of its infancy so members need to get their names in quickly and the announcement you have all been waiting for - (we have managed to appoint new Captains every year so far) - the Captains of the Teams will be: WALES - Don Wraight and REST OF THE WORLD - Eric Thwaites We want everybody to get behind their Captains, even if only for abuse of the opposition. There will be more information nearer the date and I am/we are expecting another great day of jingoism and banter. Enjoy all the comps as advertised. Mike

KITTY COMPETITION RESULT FROM STUART

Seniors, good afternoon. well looks like the weather may have changed, most of us got in dry sorry for the tail enders who got wet. There was an away match today but 25 seniors still put their tallies up and with the weather forecast in mind we decided on an individual stableford. Some good scores were returned. Result. 1st Mike Drake 42 points. 2nd Bob Jarvis 39 points. 3rd Stewart Poole 38 points. 4th Ken Tiezen 37 points. 5th Gwynn Evans 35 points. Well done Mike even though I can still hear him shouting across the road asking how I got on, poorly is the answer. Ken, Gwynn I have your prize money I will catch up with next time we see each other at the club. Next Tuesday, I think 24 of the seniors are at the Vicars Cross open, but there will still be a Kitty Comp that day, so turn up normal time and tallies up competition will be decided depending on numbers and weather. Stuart.

SENIORS MATCH VS HOLLYWELL AWAY

Seniors - A wet day all round. 16 seniors made the journey over to Holywell for the match and I thank Malcolm and Tom for their organisation. It wasn't too bad at Holywell but occasional bursts of heavy rain were just a tad off-putting (no pun intended) and the constant jackets on and off proved a bit tedious. Overall, our match with Holywell was a very convivial affair. We played with the Am/Am format and the best two scores counted in each fourball. There were four groups over 85 points and countback was required for First place. Balls were presented to three players in the ballsweep for twos: Ian Jones, Malcolm Hughes and Rae Carroll from Holywell. The winning team with 89 ponts included Tony Harcombe and Stuart Leyland. They and their two partners each received a bottle of wine each and the raffle draw was also won by a Clays member - Peter Fraser who received a bottle of wine. Your Captain thanked the opposition for their hospitality and the catering staff for the sandwiches and chips. See you all next week. Mike
