Larry Birch Celebration Competition August 29th 2013

August 29th Seniors Larry Birch Celebration competition.

This was the first time this event was played for in memory/celebration of Larry Birch who sadly passed away earlier in the year. The event was played off yellow tees over 17 holes as the first hole was out of action undergoing maintenance to the fairway. After the competition the Celebration Cup was presented by the widow of Larry, Mrs. Joy Birch who was supported by various members of her family namely Larry’s sister Janet and daughter Claire. Son Steve also played in the event. The cup bore a very apt inscription which reflected Larry’s character. Bob Brown, Clays Captain spoke fondly of Larry on behalf of the Seniors Section indicating how he was held in deep esteem by the Seniors and was very knowledgeable about all aspects of wildlife both on the course and around his family home on Cymau Mountain.

Results as follows:

1.       Steve Monk 37pts

2.       Paul White 36pts

3.       Dave Jones 35pts

4.       Bob Jarvis 35pts

After presentation of the trophy to Steve Monk Steve recollected his first game with the Seniors some 3 years previously when he played alongside Larry and related some humorous anecdotes of that day!

All entry fees along with raffles money on the day went to the Charity “Help the Heros” at the request of the family. Some £236 was collected.
