      Sunday March 25th. Each Sunday about a dozen Seniors play  a friendly competition. Some photos
      taken today can be seen below. The weather was glorious with endless sunshine.

Tuesday March 20th Seniors Kitty Competition. Format – teams of 4, 2best scores on first 9 holes and then best 3 scores on back 9! Weather was the best the Seniors have had all year!

          Thursday Match 22nd Seniors Texas scramble played in superb conditions:
           1.  Ray Martin, Joe White and  Barry Dare 53.2
          2. Geoff Morris, Stewart Poole, Peter Fraser and Brian Downes 58.7
          3.  Steve Monk, Mike Hollings, Mike Griffiths and Peter Almond 58.8
          4.  Don Wraight, Tony Owens, Bob Brown and George James 59
         One funny side of the Seniors Section is when members have senior moments!! Today 3 seniors’ members   
         turned up at Hawarden Golf Club early in the morning to play a match which was one week away! Once they
          realised their mistake they were able to get back to Clays in time to play in the Texas Scramble!!

Week ending March 17th 2012



  
March 13th Seniors Annual Nearly St. Patricks Day incorporating the Ray Mortell Trophy
This very popular event was this year mainly organised by Peter Almond. The format was teams of 4 with each player’s stableford score being added together. From all the results the senior with the highest individual score won the Ray Mortell Trophy. This year this was won by Ray Martin with a splendid individual score of 41 points which included 5 birdies. Colin Brown, Seniors captain presented Ray with his trophy
The result for the Team event was as follows:-
Winners:-   Eifion Jenkins, Stuart Miles, Bill Parry and Derek Lyon with 133points. Each member was presented with a bottle of Irish Whiskey by Colin Brown the senior’s captain. Eifion had a superb round himself with 37pts and came second to Ray Martin
Second place went to Reg Taylor, Geoff Morris, Don Wraight and Harold Hughes with 127points and each member presented with a bottle of a well-known cream liquor.
The competitors all enjoyed a meal of Irish stew or chicken followed by ice-cream and apple pie.

Week ending March 3rd 2012



     Tuesday February 28th St. Davids Day Competition.
      This was a new event and a Past Seniors Captain Roy Jones sponsored the trophy for the event
      Some 51 Seniors competed in the individual Stableford Competition
      The winner was John Kelty with 42 points followed in second place by Peter Fraser with 40pts

      Afterwards Colin Brown presented the new trophy to John along with £5 each to seven players who
      had 2's. John Kelty was included in those seven. The weather for the day was very warm and playing

   Today several notable events. Peter Lynch off a 19 handicap had a hole in one at the par 3second
   hole. Peter used a 7 iron to record the 2nd ace of his golfing career. Brian Jones had an eagle 
   2 at the par 4 7th hole using a driver followed by a 3 wood into the cup. Well done to both 
   members. The weather today was superb for the time of the year. Long may it last although I
   doubt it will !!
